Tahoe

Well as mentioned while our house was "treated" we had to leave.  So we went to Lake Tahoe and rented a house with Jason's parents, Grandma, and brother Jeremy.

Tahoe summers are particularly nostalgic for the Greenberg clan.  They used to have a house up there, and basically stayed the whole summer.  So they have a lot of friends still living in the area, as well as old haunts they like to visit.

We enjoyed the fresh mountain air.  Kids enjoyed swimming--both at the pool and at the lake.  The lake level was scarily low, due to the drought, and everything was extremely DRY.  Luckily no fires nearby, yet!

Anyhow, we really got to enjoy some family time.  I even introduced the Greenbergs to board games (the house had a whole cabinet full of them), and I think they even enjoyed playing.

Since we've been back it has been non-stop cleaning, laundry and dishes to get the house back in order!

Fumigation

Several weeks ago, when changing Alaina's crib sheets we stumbled upon a strange pile of what looked like miniature wood pellets in the corner of her room.  Hmmmmm.
Well after several internet searches as well as phone calls to exterminators, we got our answer, and it was not a good one: drywood termites.

Now when we bought our house back in 2011, the inspection revealed "evidence of a former termite infestation, but not active termites".  Well, likely they just did a good job hiding during the inspection.  The termite companies told us we had 2 options:  treat locally by drilling termite poison into the walls and floors where we found the "evidence" or fumigate the house.  The local treatment "might" work (though we would have no real way of knowing), but fumigation comes with a guarantee.  Since we really had no idea the extent of the infestation, and were pretty grossed out by the whole prospect of bugs living in the floors and walls we chose fumigation.

In order to get it done, we had to vacate the premises for 3 days and empty out all food, plants, and medication.  They then covered our house in a huge tent and gassed it.

We headed out of town to Tahoe (post coming soon) and got pictures sent to us by our neighbors.  As they said, "the circus came to Wolfe Glen".  All I can think is gross.  Reminds me of this song the kids like called "the stump motel".   Check it out on you tube:

Hopefully they will all be gone when we return.

Camp Greenberg

Last week--Ethan has a special summer camp.  He spent the week with Grandma and Grandpa Greenberg!  He enjoyed biking to town every day, going to the Sonoma county fair, going to the movies and spending time with grandma and grandpa.

It was sure quite around here!  Alaina got to experience what life would be like as an only child.  Most of the time, I think she liked it, although every day she asked "Where's Ethan?"

On Thursday, I had the day off work and was able to take her to the local children's museum.  We enjoyed checking things out and having a picnic.  It was nice to focus on one.

Ethan came back yesterday, relaxed and happy to see Alaina.  Grandma and Grandpa did not look so relaxed!

A second haricut

yesterday, at the library, I picked up a board book for Alaina, entitled "No, No, Yes, Yes".
I read it to her when we got home.  On each page it has a picture of something you should not do "No no" followed by a picture of something that is ok "Yes yes".

Imagine my surprise when I got to this page, and Alaina tells me with confidence, "Ethan cuts my hair".

Hmmmm.

"Ethan, have you been cutting your sister's hair?".  Ethan, smugly, "yes, it was in her eyes".

I guess this happens in every household, eventually.  At least  he was careful, as I have not noticed these haircuts.  And now, I am pretty sure he wont do it again.  We will see.
