Hot, hot , hot!

Well, summer has finally arrived in Boston!
It has been in the 90s all week with what feels like 100% humidity...After living in San Francisco for a few years, we had forgotten how oppressive the humidity can be! Today, we went for a short walk, and when we took Ethan out of his stroller he was soaked in sweat!
We are so happy we got an apartment with central air conditioning.
We went to the beach last weekend-look how crowded it was:



In other news, things are gong better at home, and we are settling into our work routine. We are so lucky to have found such a great nanny. Her name is Lilia, and she is a middle-aged lady from Colombia. I dont have a pic to post yet, but I will post one soon. She is great with Ethan, even teaching us a few tricks--she had 3 kids of her own, and the last family she worked for had 5 kids including 3 month-old twins. So Ethan is a piece of cake for her. We are hoping Ethan can learn some spanish from her as well. There is no way we could do this year without her!

We made it through the first week...barely!

Well the first week back proved to be a tough one....

After mom kissed Ethan good night on Tuesday, she didnt even see him again until Friday night!

This is what happens when you work 42 hours in 3 days!! For totally unclear reasons, our "orientation" day took 15 hours....and Thursday night I was in the operating rooms till almost 9 pm!
And things weren't much better for dad.

WE all were a bit shell shocked. Luckily it was a short week, and we had the weekend to recooperate...Which is a good thing considering I am working 24 hours next Sunday. I am not quite sure what I have gotten myself into here....I have been told it will get better....Let's hope so! I missed Ethan!

In other news, Ethan is really getting strong. Looked what he learned to do when mom and dad were hard at work!

He's not crawling yet, but he sure wants to!

Our Last Day of Freedom...

Work starts tomorrow for both Marla and Jason.
For Marla, it will be particularly difficult, as she has not worked in over 6 months!!


We enjoyed the day today, hanging out with Mr. Ethan...and we also took a drive to Walden pond.

Walden pond is of course famous for being the place where writer Henry Thoreau "escaped" for two years and wrote "Walden; or, Life in the Woods".
Although the pond is nowhere as secluded as it once was (the highway runs about 0.25 mi away), the pond was a good getaway, and provided a refreshing swim.
Reminded me of my childhood days in Minocqua, WI swimming in my grandparent's lake.

We'll see how we can keep up with the blogging once back to work!

Happy half-birthday!!

6 months ago today, Ethan Daniel made his way into the world.

We celebrated today with 2 trips to the park.

Marla also made a cake, which was not necessarily for Ethan's big day, but she couldn't resist decorating it for him.

We are amazed at how much he has grown and changed in the past 6 months. He is really developing a little personality. Most of the time he is pretty chill, but like both of his parents, he needs his sleep and regular meals to keep the fussies away.

Speaking of meals, he is doing much better with solids. He LOVES his rice cereal, and he is learning to like sweet potatoes, squash, and bananas. Today, he tried carrots for the first time, and it went alright. Better than the squash anyway!

Also, I am sad to report the loss of Ethan's first toy...Sophie the Giraffe was his favorite teether...until he chucked it out of his stroller 2 days ago without mom or dad noticing. Multiple trips retracing their steps did not reveal Sophie. :( Here's a pic before the giraffe disappeared...

Mom and dad learned a good lesson here: leave the expensive European toys at home (or don't buy them in the first place!).

Also, you may notice that Ethan is sitting in this picture, he is getting pretty good at it!
