Les Mis

For my birthday,  Jason bought me tickets to see Les Miserables, as it is playing in SF for a few weeks this summer.   This is one of my all time favorite shows, so I was really excited to check it out.   Jason and I saw it together many years ago in Chicago--maybe 16 or 17 years ago?   That makes me feel old!

Anyhow, before the show we headed to one of our favorite SF restaurants, Zuni Cafe.   Pre-pandemic, it was virtually impossible to get a reservation there, but it wasn't so bad this time around.   The food was just as delicious as we had remembered.

The show was great, with especially good actors portraying Jean Valjean and Eponine.   Hopefully it won't be another 10 years before we see it again!

July 4

For the July 4th weekend, we headed to Tahoe.   What difference a week made--temps were in the 80s, and sunny.   Though the lake was still too cold to swim, the kids did dip their toes in!

On Saturday, we went for a hike out to Point Mariah and had a picnic lunch.  Later that evening, Jason's parents drove up.

Sunday marked the 4th of July parade--Alaina enjoyed decorating her bike and riding in it--and then we spent some time at the beach where Jason enjoyed the chili cook off.   Next year, Ethan claims he is going to enter the competition!

Unfortunately, Ethan and I had to head back on Sunday evening because I had to work on Monday and Ethan had her Berkely class (he is taking a public speaking course this year).  Jason stayed with his parents throughout Tuesday night.

Ethan and I were both off on July 4th though, so we took a short hike with my dad in Marin and BBQed in the evening.

A nice holiday!

College Reunion

Last weekend, 4 of my college girlfriends and I met at the cabin in Tahoe for a long weekend.   I haven't gotten together with them since before the pandemic, so it was great to reunite in person!

My friend Becca drove all the way from St. Louis (!), Aga flew from Minneapolis, and Valerie and Laura flew from Chicago.   It was a long trip for all of them, especially Aga whose flight was delayed overnight in Denver.

We had a great time together though.   On Saturday, we took a beautiful hike on the shores of Lake Tahoe called the rubicon trail, and enjoyed a picnic at Meeks Bay.

On Sunday, we walked around our neighborhood, and then headed to Donner Memorial State Park, before taking Aga to the airport in Reno.

After dropping her off, the rest of us took a sunset cruise on Lake Tahoe, which was beautiful though quite cold!

On Monday, Becca left and Valerie and Laura and I did some shopping in Truckee.   A strong rain storm hit mid-day, so we went for pedicures--and after it passed enjoyed a walk on the Truckee river.

Overall, a very nice time and so wonderful to catch up with this great group!
