California Coast Classic

This week is the California Coast Classic, a week-long bike ride from San Francisco to LA along 525 miles sponsored by the arthritis foundation each year.   With all of Ethan's work with the arthritis foundation, they asked him to give the kick off speech on Friday before the race began.   So he headed to Fisherman's Wharf after school and luckily Jason and I got off work early enough to hear him give it!

He did a great job and hopefully inspired many of the riders!

Someday when I have more time (and am in better shape) I would love to do the ride!

Ethan is IN!

On Friday, Ethan got some great news!   He was accepted to the University of Chicago in the first early decision round!

He is so excited!   The competition is really strong--and though he had done his best with his application, he was not sure how things would shake out.    His friends took a video of him finding out (which I cannot unfortunately up load)--but it was a really cool moment.   Here is a screenshot:

As an added bonus, he is DONE with applying--which is a huge relief for him, as each school requires multiple essays and of course costs money!

We are very proud--he has worked so hard in high school to get to this point and so it is great to see all of his hard work pay off.

Labor Day Weekend

Last weekend was Labor Day Weekend and we continued our tradition of spending it at the cabin with out family freind the Toma's.

Noticibly absent this year was Ethan, who chose to spend the weekend at his friend's cabin instead.  I guess prepping us for next year.

Our weekend got off to a rough start on Friday night when Alaina developed a severe headache and vomiting once we were over 6000 feet.   We think it was due to a recent cold and sinus infection--anyway, we eneded up going back down the mountain to 3000 feet on Friday night so she could acclimate, and the following day she was ok.

The weather was cloudy and chilly, but we made the most of it.   We enjoyed the cabin tour, BBQed and made the annual trek to Sardine Lake for dinner.

A fun tradition!

Ethan and Calder Cook Dinner

Last weekend, we had Ethan's good friend Calder and his family up for dinner.   But with a twist: the boys cooked us dinner.   Both of them love to cook, so we thought, why not arrange a night for the adults to sit while the kids did the work?!  The little sisters also chipped in to help as sous chefs!

Anyhow, dinner turned out great!   They made us bruschetta for an appetizer, and for dinner tomato and mozarella salad, pork chops and steak.   I pitched in by pre-making dessert--a rasberry tart.

It was definitely a treat to not have to do the cooking!   And fun to catch up with friends!

As an aside, last weekend was a busy one--Alaina also had a Bat Mitzvah for her friend and teammate Sydney, and I had a retirement party in the city for one of our recovery room nurses who I have been working with for 19 years!   So we felt very social!
