Memorial Day Weekend Fun

We have had a lovely 3-day weekend.  It started on Saturday, where we made a pilgrimage out to Brentwood to pick cherries.  We haven't been out there for a few years-the past few seasons have been really short due to the drought, and didn't jive with our work schedules.  Well, this year it worked out and we got 8 pounds worth!

The kids enjoyed picking, mostly because they ate almost all that they picked.  Alaina didn't do a very good job of hiding the evidence:

It was a really hot day--almost 100 in Brentwood, so we next hit up a local water park for some swimming.  The kids had a blast on the waterslides, and we enjoyed a picinc.

Sunday, we headed up to Sonoma to see Grandma and Grandpa Greenberg.  We had a yummy bbq dinner and a nice visit.

Finally, today I took the kids to the Memorial Day parade in Mill Valley, and we enjoyed a pancake breakfast at the firehouse.
So, it was action packed for sure--A good start to summer!

Big Girl Bed

Recently Alaina has been waking up at 5:00am screaming because she has to go to the bathroom and can't get out of her crib.  After a few nights like this we finally clued in--perhaps it was time to get rid of the crib.

We have been still using it since when we took Ethan out of the crib, we were terrorized for months with him escaping from his room at all hours of the night.  And so, with Alaina, we have been trying to hold out for as long as possible.

So, yesterday, we took the front rail off her bed--transforming it into a real "big-girl" bed.  She was so excited.  Nap time went great.  Then at 1:30 am last night she woke up screaming on the floor after apparently falling out.  So perhaps we have traded one problem for another.

This morning, Alaina asked, why she couldn't have a "fancy" bed like Ethan, specifically, a purple one.  So, we promised her that once she  can stay dry all night and wear underwear instead of diapers to bed, we will buy her a "fancy" bed, with a purple quilt.  Stay tuned.

Edamame

At Alaina's preschool, they provide a morning and afternoon snack.  A few months ago, I picked her up during afternoon snack time and they were serving edamame.  She stared at it and told me, "I don't like edamame".  I asked if she had tried it, and she replied no.  I told her that is was super good, and fun to eat, and then I ate a bit with her watching.  She refused to try it, and we left.

Fast forward several weeks, when we are driving home from school one day, and Alaina tells me that she had edamame for snack and she loved it!  She told me "you put it in your mouth and squeeze it and then the beans pop out!  Yum!"  I couldn't believe it.  I guess I had made an impression sitting next to her at snack time.  I have to say, I have never seen her eat anything green voluntarily!

Since then, she has been begging me to buy some edamame for home.  Yesterday, I finally got to Trader Joes to pick some up.  Today for "dessert" for lunch, guess what she requested?  Yep, edamame.  I told her she could have edamame for dessert anytime.

Happy Mother's Day!

We had a very nice mother's day today--Ethan prepared me a special breakfast, which was all ready for me when I got up this morning.

He made this super cute card at school along with a bookmark.

And for lunch we headed to a restaurant in Petaluma, where we had lunch with the whole Greenberg clan.

I am lucky to have such a great family!  Wishing a happy Mother's day to all the moms out there and a special shout out to my Mom and Grandma who I would have loved to see today too!
