Well, fall soccer is back. Pre-covid back (though unvaccinated kids still wear masks). Both kids are on rec teams in Corte Madera, and both are playing games every Saturday.
Ethan is on a team of 7th and 8th grade boys. Their field is quite big--near regulation size and they play 10 players on each side. It is fun to watch, and his team is starting to gel pretty well. They are currently undefeated!
The last time Ethan played soccer was around the time of his autoimmune arthritis diagnosis. It was a friend, who also happens to be an orthopedic surgeon, who saw him running at a game and said something was not right, we needed to get him in for a work-up. Sure enough, things were not right at all. But, I am so thankful for his medication--he is not perfect, but he is also not limping and can generally keep up pretty well. He even scored a goal today!
Alaina is on a team of 3rd grade girls. They have a much smaller field, and usually play 5 vs 5. Ethan has taught Alaina to be quite aggressive, so she is one of the better players on her team, though their record is 2-1.
It is so nice to have real games again this year. What a strange thing to be happy about. But if nothing else, covid has helped me reframe happiness.
