4th of July

We had a nice 4th of July holiday weekend at the cabin.   Gary, Eileen and Jeremy joined us, and we had a nice time together.  

On Saturday, Jason and the kids and I decided to hike to Castle Peak.  Unfortunately we underestimated the hike and it was a lot harder than expected, at 10 miles and 2000 feet elevation gain (and the 2000 feet was all in the last 1.5 miles).  The views at the top were pretty good though, and now every time we drive by we can say, "hey we climbed to the top of that!"  The wildflowers were really beautiful too.

That evening for dinner we headed to Sunnyside, which is an old favorite restaurant.  They did limit the menu quite a bit due to COVID, so it was not quite as good a usual.  The view and the company was great though!

  

On the 4th, the kids decorated their bikes and rode in the Serene Lakes 4th of July parade--which was more of a glom of people that a real parade.   We then spent the day at the beach and had a picnic and did some swimming and canoeing.  No fireworks this year, due to the extreme fire danger, which was too bad, but so it goes.

On Monday we took a nice short hike in Royal Gorge with Gary and Eileen, and headed back to the beach in the afternoon.
