In the light of the laundry room, a tiny egg sat on a leaf.
One Tuesday morning, Pop! Out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar.
He ate through many green leaves.
Then the caterpillar was not so tiny anymore. He was a big, fat caterpillar.
He built a house around himself, called a cocoon.
10 days later, Pop! Out came a beautiful black swallowtail butterfly!
Alaina learned about the butterfly life cycle in school this year, and even learned how to find their eggs on a certain type of plant. Armed with the knowledge, she searched diligently for an egg to bring home--and found one. Jason and I were super skeptical, but wow, were we wrong! Over the past 6 weeks or so, we raised our pet, who Alaina named "cucumber" and were constantly amazed by the transformation.
Alaina was so methodical in finding the egg and teaching us what we needed to do to keep the caterpillar alive. She clearly was paying attention in school! 💗
