We have been back for a week from a vacation.....we were in Oahu the first week of March. I am not sure how to sum the trip up...it was OK.
The day before we were supposed to leave, Jason's Grandpa Sid, whose health has been declining, took a turn for the worse. Jason's parents decided that they couldn't make the trip and stayed back to help grandpa. We were bummed we weren't going to get to spend the week with them, and also worried about grandpa, which definitely put a damper on our trip.
Our flight out was a bit rough...there was a big storm in the pacific, and the normal 4.5 hour flight took over 6. We arrived to the hotel tired and cranky. And it was raining.
But the vacation did get better, the hotel was lovely with lots of activities for Ethan including a lazy river and two water slides. And the weather did improve. Did get some great shots of the kids.
Our flight home was much worse than our flight out. We arrived to the airport for out 4pm flight around 2pm (failing to check for delays before leaving our hotel) and were told that the flight was at least four hours delayed. Turned out to be more like 6, and we landed in Oakland at 4:30am. Of note, neither child slept well on the plane, and we were all completely exhausted. The next night we lost an hour of sleep, which seemed to compound the exhaustion...we needed a vacation from our vacation. One week later we are finally almost back to normal!
So a nice trip, but not the best we have had. Meanwhile, Grandpa is doing ok. He has been moved to an inpatient hospice facility at the VA. He seems to be much more comfortable there, so we are happy for that.
